Ashford 4: – Week 3 – Discussion 1

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Reference the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.

Technology   and Communication

In a 250-300 word response, analyze how the use of technology has impacted organizational communication both positively and negatively. How has technology impacted the verbal and nonverbal cues used in interpreting messages? Provide examples to support your position. Use at least one resource to support your key points. Offer some additional ideas to others in this class by responding to at least two of your fellow students’ posts.
As an option, students are encouraged to utilize a form of communication technology within this discussion. Consider recording video messages instead of the traditional text, both for your initial discussion posting as well as responses to other students. Go to Eyejot.com, an easy-to-use, free online software that allows you to create video and copy and paste links to share with others. Navigate to:  http://www.eyejot.com/about.html, register by clicking on “Join Now” at the top of the screen, record, then copy and paste the link to your video into your discussions.

For your Reaction Paper, you have two options. Please review them carefully to ensure you choose the one from which you will benefit most.

OPTION ONE:

The focus of this option is our secondary text, Confusing Love with Obsession. Your paper should be at least five pages (roughly 1,250 words) in length. Additional sources or references are not required for this assignment, but if you quote, paraphrase, or summarize a source (including the texts), you must document it in APA format. Also, please clearly label each question below in bold with your response underneath.

These are the questions/points to consider to which you should respond in your reaction paper:

1. Using sociologist John Alan Lee’s love styles (refer to pages 261- 263 of Intimate Relationships, and pay special attention to Table 8.7 ‘Styles of Loving’ found on the top of page 262) from chapter eight of “Intimate Relationships”, what is the predominant love style for most of the characters presented in the book, Confusing Love with Obsession.

2. What character if any did you identify with most from the book? This can be either yourself or someone you know.

3. Briefly outline the characteristics of the Obsessive Love Wheel at each stage of the wheel.

4. After reading the book, what knowledge did you gain about love addiction?

OPTION TWO:

This option allows you to choose from a selection of several chapters of books by scholar Deborah Tannen that are available electronically from the APUS library. As with the other option, your paper should be at least five pages (roughly 1,250 words) in length. Additional sources or references are not required for this assignment, but if you quote, paraphrase, or summarize a source (including the reading or the text), you must document it following APA format.

These are the questions/points to ponder that you can use to develop your reaction paper, but feel free to ask yourself additional questions. Remember that this paper should give your reaction to what you have read, meaning you may agree, disagree, or both. However, you cannot merely say you agree. You must explain why clearly.

1. After reading the selection you have chosen, think about either your own situation that reflects the subject of the reading or about situations with which you are familiar, or both. You should not use full names or real people, please! It is preferable to give people aliases rather than use their names.

2. Outline some of the characteristics of the communication situations described and analyzed in the reading.

3. Did you identify with the people and situations in the selection? How? If not, how do you engage differently in interpersonal communication in similar situations to the ones described and analyzed?

4. After reading the selection, what knowledge did you gain about interpersonal communication in general?

Ashford 7: – Week 6 – Reflection

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Reference the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.

Reflection

According to the Tuckman and Jensen Model for group processes, the final stage in a group’s activity involves adjourning. In an online course, the last week of activity is a time for reflection and ending the formal group interaction. The same strategy can be applied to the end of a program of study. Therefore, we would like to model adjourning by offering you this space to reflect, debrief, and bring closure to our time together in this course and the MATLT program.

To participate in the Reflection discussion, post a media-rich farewell that reflects on your learning experiences in this course and then the MATLT program as a whole. Next, reflect on any design and development challenges you experienced during the creation of your final project for this course and make at least one constructive suggestion for how the final project experience could be improved. Conclude with a reflection on your journey from enrollment to this moment in the MATLT program. You are encouraged to highlight friends, family, instructors or fellow learners and even your Ashford University staff contacts, such as an advisor or librarian, who has contributed to your success!

Attach or link your creation to your response.  The reflection might be a brief video, such as with YouTube or VoiceThread, a narrated PowerPoint using Snap!, or a Glogster, or any other media-rich presentation addressing the questions. Remember to cite any graphics, audio, video, and ideas you incorporate into your creation that are not yours.

Guided Response: Reply to two or more classmates. In this as with every discussion throughout our course, for optimal engagement with your learning peers, you are encouraged to reengage in the discussion by replying to posts made in response to you by the instructor and peers.

The Reflection evaluation will occur along the following grade continuum. An error constitutes issues with addressing all parts of the question, required number of replies, timeliness, citation, or mechanics.

5 points – Posts contain no errors.
4 points – Posts contain an error.
3 points – posts contain multiple errors.
0 points – Learner does not participate or one or more posts lack academic integrity.
