Applied Social psychology

Topic Statement In the final week of this course, you will design an intervention to address a specific problem you have identified utilizing social psychological insight. To ensure proper preparation for this cumulative work and to provide you with an opportunity for initial feedback, this week you will identify and describe a problem using relevant theory and research. Note that the purpose of this assignment is formative. At this point, you are not expected to have a perfectly firm grasp on the material or a detailed plan for addressing a particular problem, but you should be progressing in a clear direction with regard to relevant background information and resources. Your topic statement should encompass the following: •Describe a problem of interest to you, personally, or that you are likely to encounter, professionally. •Relate the behaviors that contribute to and result from this social issue. •Discriminate relevant theoretical perspectives from social psychology. •Generate potential intervention strategies. Synthesize the information you have acquired from your review of the literature, guided by the above points. Conclude with a paragraph that includes questions you have, additional directions you plan to explore through your research, initial thoughts about the final paper, and any problems you are experiencing or think you might encounter.   

Discussion1Week 2 Lin 300 words

The Scales We Use and the Comparisons We Make Resources Attributes and Evaluation of Discussion Contributions.

In this unit, you are introduced to four scales of measurement, which are easily remembered with the acronym NOIR, and include nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio. Each of these levels or scales of measurement has its own properties, methods for assigning numbers or scores, and procedures for statistically manipulating them. As noted in your Psychological Testing and Assessment text, and adhering to a fundamentalist view of measurement statistics, all possible attributes in psychology can be examined through at least one of these four scales and the creation of scores that purport to measure them.

You also read about two methods for evaluating those scores through comparing them to a reference set of data; namely, norm-referenced testing and assessment, and criterion-referenced testing and assessment. Each of these methods is unique in the focus regarding a test’s scores or results.

Discuss the impact of each scale of measurement on the ability or inability to be utilized on a test being standardized as a norm-referenced or criterion-referenced assessment. For the purpose of this discussion, you may cluster the ordinal and interval scale together. Subsequently, your post will include the following four elements: Ordinal or interval scale of measurement and norm-referenced test. Ordinal or interval scale of measurement and criterion-referenced test. Ratio scale of measurement and norm-referenced test. Ratio scale of measurement and criterion-referenced test.

In you post: Provide at least one example that is not in your Psychological Testing and Assessment text for each combination above and describe how the referencing data would be collected. Provide a statement that evaluates which scale of measurement appears to be the most useful for examining attributes in psychology. Explain. Evaluate which method of referencing (norm or criterion) appears to be the most useful for examining attributes in psychology. Explain your decision based on the area of focus regarding the test results. For example, identify if it is preferable to focus on how one individual performs relative to others who took the same test, or if it is preferable to only focus on what the individual can or cannot do.

Bystander intervention discussion

After reading the article on the bystander intervention in  emergencies, answer the following question: What are the main forces  that lead a person not to respond (or to respond) in an emergency  situation?

Describe a situation you have been in (or are familiar with)  where you believe this phenomenon occurred. How did you feel, and how  did you respond or not respond? Based on the readings, what main forces  guided your response of lack thereof?

Psychological First Aid

Psychological First Aid Psychological First Aid

You probably are familiar with medical first aid, the immediate but limited care provided to survivors suffering a medical emergency. Medical first aid usually is employed at the scene of disasters, crises, and traumas to help survivors who have been physically injured. For example, an army medic will try to stop the bleeding of a wounded soldier before removing him or her from the battlefield for further treatment. Psychological first aid is similar to medical first aid in that early intervention is provided at the scene, immediate needs are addressed first, and the likelihood of recovery improves as a result.

In the aftermath of a disaster, crisis, or trauma, the use of psychological first aid can lessen the negative psychological impact of the event on survivors. Crisis workers employing psychological first aid might start with making connections with survivors, enhancing their safety, and providing them with physical and emotional comfort. They might also offer practical assistance, such as helping survivors complete paperwork, providing information about community support resources, and explaining effective coping strategies. All of these actions can have a powerful influence on how well survivors cope during the aftermath of a disaster, crisis, or trauma.

PSY 605 WEEK 1 DQ1

Prior to completing this discussion, please read the required chapter from the Lerner, Easterbrooks, Mistry, & Weiner (2013) ebook, Baltes (1987), Hudson-Barr (2004), and American Psychological Association (2003) articles. Additionally, review the Human Development Theoretical Perspectives document required for this week.

Select one of the perspectives identified in the Theoretical Perspectives to Understand Human Development document and identify one theory (Freud’s Psychosexual Theory, Erikson’s Psychosocial Theory, etc.) that you would like to explore more.

Explain the theory you selected providing a well-developed overview. In addition, research one peer-reviewed article from your selected theoretical perspective in the Ashford University Library. Summarize the article being sure to include research question(s) and/or problem(s), target population and sample (specific group within the target population), measures (tests, instruments, and/or questionnaires used), procedures (how the study was conducted), and conclusions presented in the article. Analyze the ethical considerations, as well as the benefits and limitations of the research proposing solutions or suggestions for any issues or concerns.

Guided Response: Review several of your colleagues posts and respond to at least two of your peers including one response to a classmate in each of the other two groups by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful and interactive discourse in this discussion.

Prior to crafting your responses, critically review the theory and article selected. Did your classmate provide enough detail for you to understand the theory and appropriately identify the specified elements of the article selected? What elements might you suggest he or she consider that were not present in the initial post? Were there ethical concerns presented in the article your colleague studied that were not addressed in his or her post? Was your colleague’s description of the proposed changes clear and appropriate in terms of the information presented in his or her article? Propose at least one change that your colleague did not consider, and explain why it would be an improvement to the study. Continue to monitor the discussion forum until 5:00 p.m. (Mountain Time) on Day 7 of the week and respond to anyone who replies to your initial post.

Assignment: Final Project and Culture

Cultural backgrounds can greatly impact people who are in need of human services. In some cultures, for example, illness is seen as a sign of weakness, which sometimes leads to delayed medical or social assistance. This is just one of the countless ways that culture impacts human services, and as a future professional, it is important that you gain insights into how culture might impact your particular area of interest. For this Assignment, use the Walden Library databases to locate and select one peer-reviewed article that relates to culture in human services. Consider how culture might impact the program or area of practice you plan to focus on for the Final Project.

To complete this Assignment:

By Day 7

Write a 2- to 3- page paper that addresses the following:

· Identify the particular program or area of practice that you selected for the Final Project.

· Identify and describe the peer-reviewed article you selected from the Walden Library.

· Explain how culture and the article you selected are relevant to the program or area of practice that you identified.

Note: After reviewing your assignment this week, your instructor will offer suggestions, feedback, and final approval of your topic and article(s).

Reminder: Proper formatting and APA citations are required. Refer to the Writing Template for Course Papers for additional guidance.

Application of Ethical Principles

To prepare for this assignment: Review the article, “Interpersonal Dynamics in a Simulated Prison.” Pay particular attention to the ethical standards followed in the Stanford Prison Experiment. Review the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct. Think about which APA ethical standards might apply to the Stanford Prison Experiment and about what problems or conflicts might arise if these standards were applied. Consider whether this study could be conducted today under current ethical standards and why or why not. Keeping in mind the APA ethical standards you reviewed, notice if there are any ethical issues, problems, or flaws in the research study. If so, think about why they are issues, problems, or flaws.

The assignment (2–3 pages): Briefly describe each ethical issue, problem, or flaw you found in the Stanford Prison Experiment. Explain why you consider each to be an ethical issue, problem, or flaw. Explain whether the same research, if conducted today, would be considered ethical or unethical and why or why not. Justify your position citing specific APA ethical codes that apply.
