Bill to Law

As you have discovered through this course, nurses are influential members of the community and the political system. Therefore, for the purposes of this assignment you will identify a problem or concern in your community, organization, etc. that has the capacity to be legislated. You will conduct research and state a proposal. Through the legislative process, your proposal for the problem or concern may influence an idea for change into a law.

First, refer to the “How a Bill Becomes a Law” media.

http://lc.gcumedia.com/zwebassets/courseMaterialPages/nrs440v_how-a-bill-becomes-a-law-v2.1.php/.

Then, view the “Bill to Law Process” to watch the scenario.

After viewing the scenario, refer to the “Legislative Assignment.” You will need to save the document first to use it.

Practicum Experience Week 2 – 3

Practicum Experience Week 2 – 3

By tomorrow Saturday June 15, 2019 write a minimum of 550 words essay in APA format with at least three scholarly references. Include the level one header as numbered below:

As your practicum experience proceeds, talk with individuals in your practicum setting about social, political, technological, and/or financial considerations related to the implementation of an evidence-based practice project. For instance, you may opt to meet with a nurse manager or executive involved in financial matters to do a cost-benefit analysis or a return-on-investment analysis, or to develop a pro forma statement about how much it would cost to implement one practice versus another.

Consider these insights as you:

1) Evaluate the strengths and limitations of the evidence-based project,

2) Analyze potential barriers to sustaining practice changes.

Health care issues

Create a 3-5-page annotated bibliography and summary based on your research related to best practices addressing one of the health care problems or issues in the Assessment Topic Areas media piece faced by a health care organization that is of interest to you.

Introduction

In your professional life you will need to find credible evidence to support your decisions and your plans of action. You will want to keep abreast of best practices to help your organization adapt to the ever-changing health care environment. Being adept at research will help you find the information you need. For this assessment, you will review the Assessment Topic Areas media piece and select one of the health care problems or issues to research a current health care problem or issue faced by a health care organization that is of interest to you.

Demonstration of Proficiency

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria: Competency       1: Apply information literacy and library research skills to obtain       scholarly information in the field of health care.  Identify        academic peer-reviewed journal articles relevant to a health care        problem or issue and describe the criteria used for the literature        search. Competency       2: Apply scholarly information through critical thinking to solve       problems in the field of health care.  Assess        the credibility and relevance of information sources. Summarize        what was learned from developing an annotated bibliography. Analyze        academic peer-reviewed journal articles using the annotated bibliography        organizational format. Competency       4: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and       respectful of the diversity, dignity, and integrity of others, and that       is consistent with expectations for health care professionals.  Summarize        a health care problem or issue and describe a personal interest in it        and experience with it. Write        clearly and logically, with correct use of spelling, grammar,        punctuation, and mechanics. Write        following APA style for in-text citations, quotes, and references.

Instructions

Note: The requirements outlined below correspond to the grading criteria in the scoring guide. At a minimum, be sure to address each point. In addition, you are encouraged to review the performance level descriptions for each criterion to see how your work will be assessed.

For this assessment, you will research best practices related to a current health care problem. Your selected problem or issue will be utilized again in Assessment 3. To explore your chosen topic, you should use the first two steps of the Socratic Problem-Solving Approach to aid your critical thinking.

4. View the Assessment Topic Areas | Transcript media piece and select one of the health care problems or issues in the media piece to research. Write a brief overview of the selected topic. In your overview:  Describe        the health care problem or issue. Describe        your interest in the topic. Describe        any professional experience you have with this topic.

5. Conduct a search for scholarly or academic peer-reviewed literature related to the topic and describe the criteria you used to search for articles, including the names of the databases you used.  You        will want to access the applicable Undergraduate Library Research Guide        related to your degree for tips to help you in your search. Use        keywords related to the health care problem or issue you are researching        to select relevant articles.

6. Assess the credibility of the information sources you find.  Determine        if the source is from an academic peer-reviewed journal. Determine        if the publication is current. Determine        if information in the academic peer-reviewed journal article is still        relevant.

7. Select four current scholarly or academic peer-reviewed journal articles published during the past three to five years that relate to your topic.

8. Explain the relevance of the information sources.  Describe        how the health care problem or issue is addressed in each source. Discuss        what kind of contribution each source provides on your selected topic.

9. Analyze the scholarly literature or academic peer-reviewed journal articles using the annotated bibliography organizational format.  The        purpose of an annotated bibliography is to document a list of references        along with key information about each one. The detail about the        reference is the annotation. Developing this annotated bibliography will        create a foundation of knowledge about the selected topic. List        the full reference for the source in APA format (author, date, title,        publisher, et cetera) and use APA format for the annotated        bibliography.  Make        sure the references are listed in alphabetical order, are double-spaced,        and use hanging indents. Follow        the reference with the annotation.

10. In your annotation:  Identify        the purpose of the article. Summarize        the source:  What         are the main arguments? What         topics are covered? Include        the conclusions and findings of the article. Write        your annotation in a paragraph form. The annotation should be        approximately 150 words (1 to 3 paragraphs) in length.

11. In a separate paragraph or two at the end of the paper, summarize what you learned from your research.  List        the main points you learned from your research. Summarize        the main contributions of the sources you chose and how they enhanced        your knowledge about the topic.

Example Assessment: You may use the following to give you an idea of what a Proficient or higher rating on the scoring guide would look like: Assessment       2 Example [PDF].

You overhear another student complaining about how frustrated she was during her first practice examination of an infant. “He was sleeping when it was time to begin the examination,” she explains. “I woke him up so I could get started, but then he started crying. He finally quit crying, but by then I’d already lost a lot of time.” What critique can you offer for the scenario? What advice do you have for this student examiner?

When does the process of inspection begin with the patient?

The physical examination of an older patient should include mental status evaluation with particular attention to which three areas?

For children who are small enough, where should they be examined?

The child’s ability at any age to react socially offers clues to which two types of well-being?

What does observing a child playing on the floor afford us?

KM is a 46-year-old male patient who presents for a routine physical examination. He presents today without complaints. He wants to be sure that he is on the right track to maintain his health because he is in his fourth decade of life.

Nursing Community

The purpose of this assignment is to complete a direct observational assessment of a community in your area. This windshield survey will help you to identify a vulnerable population, an important community health problem, and a related Healthy People 2020objective for a community in your area.

Introduction to the Community: Identify the community you will be using for this assignment with the city and state, and provide a brief, one-paragraph description of the community. Your community should be the area where you live or the area surrounding your work setting. The community must include a residential area and be a large enough area to answer the survey questions. Do not include epidemiological or demographic data as this is based on what you observe. Windshield Survey: Assess your community by doing a windshield survey. Information about the components of a windshield survey is located in your textbook, Nies and McEwen (2019). Drive through the area and report your observations by answering the questions on the form. Be sure to include what you observed related to each of these categories, and also include any significant items that are missing in your community because this may be equally important in identifying a community health problem. Community vitality Indicators of social and economic conditions Health resources Environmental conditions related to health Social functioning Attitude toward healthcare Note: It is helpful to conduct this assessment at least two different times: during the day or evening, on a weekday, and/or on the weekend. If possible, plan on asking someone to drive during your survey so that you can take notes. Vulnerable population: Identify the aggregate or vulnerable populations that you observed in your community during your drive through. What did you observe about this population? Community problem: Based on your assessment in the survey above, identify and discuss one priority community health problem that a community health nurse could positively impact.Example: If you observed teens who were pregnant or had young children during your survey and felt this was a priority problem in your community, the diagnosis could be
Risk of unintended pregnancy among adolescent girls in XXXX community as evidence by observation of pregnant teens and teens caring for young children during windshield survey. Healthy People 2020 Objective: Go to the Healthy People topic areas at https://www.healthypeople.gov/2020/topics-objectives. Find a topic area that relates to one of the vulnerable populations you observed. Click on the topic area, and then click on the green Objectives tab. Review the objectives within that topic area to complete the relevant sections of the form. State the Healthy People 2020 objective number (not just a goal) that describes your problem.Example: The topic area Family Planning would be relevant. You would click on Family Planning, and then click the green Objectives tab, and you might choose
FP-8.1 “Reduce pregnancies among adolescent females aged 15 to 17 years” (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services: Healthy People 2020, 2018, Objectives: Family Planning, para 8). Summary: Complete the summary of learning section. References: The purpose of this assignment is to document your observations of your community. Outside sources other than Healthy People 2020 should not be used. We have included this reference on the Windshield Survey form for you. Best Practices in Completing the Form

The following are best practices in preparing this project. Make sure all elements of the form are included. Review directions and grading rubric thoroughly. Use a professional writing style with complete sentences in the fill-in sections. Check for spelling and grammar errors prior to final submission.
